OBPO’s member publishers collectively possess a wealth of publishing industry knowledge. The OBPO seeks to promote the sharing of this knowledge and the building of strong collegial relationships among members. The OBPO’s information-sharing initiatives include:
- Two annual membership meetings and social events, held in February/March and September/October.
- Virtual and in-person professional development sessions; recent PD events have focused on successfully securing funding from the Ontario Arts Council and Ontario Creates, marketing books to librarians via author events, and navigating supply chain issues impacting book printing.
- Compiling resources on topics of interest to Ontario publishers, such as lists of publishing trade shows and festivals and best practices for marketing books to librarians and booksellers.
- Hosting a Members Portal on the OBPO website where publishers can access industry resources, recordings of past events, and information on collective purchasing opportunities.
