Benefits of Joining the OBPO
- The OBPO presents a united voice to lobby government ministries and agencies on behalf of the provincial book publishing industry, resulting in programs such as the Ontario Book Publishing Tax Credit and the Ontario Book Initiative.
- The OBPO encourages recognition of the cultural and economic benefits made to Ontario through book publishing.
- OBPO member publishers have the opportunity to participate in group marketing projects such as the Regional Marketing Initiative and the OLA OBPO Pavilion at a cost substantially below individual initiatives.
- OBPO member publishers are updated on industry news, events, and opportunities through regular email communication.
- OBPO member publishers have opportunities to learn and exchange information through membership meetings, seminars, and the Members Portal on the OBPO website.
Membership Requirements
- Publishes original Canadian books as a primary not an occasional or peripheral part of their business function.
- Has been in operation for at least two years from the date of publication of its first title.
- Has its chief office of business in Ontario, Canada.
- Is at least 80% beneficially owned by persons who are Canadian citizens, or landed immigrants who have held that status for not more than four years; or are fully owned or controlled by institutions or associations chartered in Canada which are at least 80% controlled by persons who are Canadian citizens, or landed immigrants who have held that status for not more than four years.
- Has been recommended for membership in the Group by at least two active OBPO members.
- Has not fewer than 6 original Canadian titles in print and has an ongoing program of at least two original Canadian books per year, no more than 25% of which are authored by principals, directors or employees.
NOTE: Exceptions to the above requirements will be considered by the board of directors based on employee experience on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants are encouraged to review the above criteria and the OBPO mandate before completing the membership application form below. Applications will be reviewed by OBPO’s executive director to determine eligibility before being considered at the next montly board meeting.
