After more than 17 years of celebrating Ontario books, authors, and publishers, Open Book officially ceased operations on August 31, 2026.

Since its launch in 2009, Open Book connected readers, educators, librarians, booksellers, and media with Ontario’s vibrant publishing community. Through book reviews, author interviews, reading lists, industry news, classroom resources, and thousands of stories about books and the people who create them, Open Book championed Ontario literature and the independent publishers who bring it to life.

We are deeply grateful to the writers, publishers, educators, librarians, booksellers, readers, funders, partners, contributors, and staff who made Open Book possible over the years. Your support helped build an invaluable resource for Ontario’s literary community.

Although Open Book has come to an end, the work of supporting Ontario’s independent publishers continues.

The Ontario Book Publishers Organization (OBPO) remains the voice of Ontario’s independent, Canadian-owned book publishers. Through advocacy, professional development, industry initiatives, and marketing programs, OBPO continues to strengthen the province’s publishing sector and connect Ontario books with readers.
